FOOTHILLS OF THE IRON MOUNTAINS

Microregion

Microregion Foothills of the Iron Mountains was found in 2002. It is a community of 21 municipalities and towns and it is an initiator of many significant and interesting activities that support cohesion of local inhabitants.

In 2005 the microregion joined the Local Action Group (LAG) of the Iron Mountains, where they focus on the regional developments of hospitality, support traditions and sales of local production with the sign Železné hory regionální produkt - Regional product of the Iron Mountains.

In landscape of the microregion you can find river Elbe, ponds, lakes, flooded mines and many picturesque water streams all surrounded by mixed forests. Thanks to this nature and local traditions the educational nature trails was created.
Administrative centre is located in town Přelouč. The most visited places are the grounds of chateaux in Choltice and the lookout tower Barborka in Horní Raškovice. However, in every local municipality is something special and interesting to look at.
The best way how to get around is on bike. You can use any of many cycle paths that are marked in our maps or try one of the thematic ones, for example the  “Gurmánská stezka” Gourmet Path.

This areal also involves the National Geopark of the Iron Mountains.
